Meet the Team
The Founder of Determined2Heal, Josh Basile, a C4-5 quadriplegic has been a champion for the spinal cord injury community since his 2004 injury at Bethany Beach in Delaware when a wave slammed him into the ocean floor. He was just 18.
Josh founded Determined2Heal ten months after his injury with the goal of helping to simplify the difficult transition into the spinal cord injury world for the injured and their support teams.
While running Determined2Heal, Josh went on to graduate cum laude from undergrad and magna cum laude from law school. He is now a trial attorney fighting for the catastrophically injured at Jack Olender and Associates in Washington DC.
Tiffiny Carlson is the Executive Director of SPINALpedia and a C6 quadriplegic from Minnesota. Helping others with spinal cord injuries has been her passion since becoming a disability writer in 1999. She’s been the SCI Life columnist for New Mobility magazine since 2003 and she is the founder of the longtime disability site, BeautyAbility.com.
Her work on disability and dating have been featured in Penthouse, Playgirl, and Nerve.com. When she’s not writing, Tiffiny mentors newly injured women and practices adapted yoga.
How did we get started?
About 10 months after Josh’s injury, he realized how fortunate he was because of his supportive family and friends. Those 10 months were not easy, but they inspired him to help spread his knowledge and experiences to others going through the same transition. With their help, the Determined2heal Foundation was formed in June of 2005, and we’re still going strong.
